Food in My Family Essay Example for Free

Food in My Family Essay I come from a very diverse ethnic background, with many variations of what maybe considered cultural foods. I have many fond memories of family reunions and all the interesting dishes my relatives would prepare. Food in my family holds so much meaning; it’s the glue that has held us together for many years even before I was born. Food in my family isn’t just a substance we consume in order to keep our bodies healthy and energized. When we create a meal, it’s as if we are creating art by expressing ourselves in our dish. We take the time to perfect our meals, while also keeping our tradition alive by incorporating the same rituals as our ancestors before us. When it came to certain meals my mother was very traditional in preparing it, and it had to be done a certain way or it was ruined. She wanted to maintain our family’s culture in each dish she prepared. She felt as if by doing this it kept our ancestor’s memories alive; with each recipe preserved to its natural and formal state with zero alteration kept our tradition alive. She didn’t believe in wasting food, so when she prepared dishes she would make sure to cook everything from the head to the feet. My mother’s favorite dish to create was Peni which means pig in Spanish. I remember going to the meat market and having to wait on long lines to buy a whole pig so that she can begin prepping it for the family reunion that was scheduled for next week. My mother always said Una de Las cosas mas importantes de recordar es que no es el alimento que usted come que es importante pero como usted lo creo que lo hace memorable. In English it means â€Å"One of the most important things to remember is that it is not the food you eat that is important, but its how you created it that makes it memorable. † Preparing meals for a family reunion takes a group effort; especially if it requires large quantities of food needed. I believe it brought us closer together when we were cooking the meals compare to when we actually sat down to eat it. Everyone had there own responsibilities to help contribute to the meals, my family was big on making sure no one was left out. It brought everyone together as a whole, no matter what prier arguments you had with one another or what grudges you may have construed towards each other. It was always put aside when it came to family reunion, because on that day nothing else mattered but family. I believe certain foods can trigger certain memories, depending on what your mind can connect it too. For example every time I smell the sweet sent of buttered pancakes in the morning with a side of bacon. It reminds me of my mom and how I use to wake up and run to the kitchen as fast as I can trying to beat my brothers to the table, because I knew they would eat up all the beacon. It reminds me of happier days; when I use to not have to worry about anything and I could just be myself. When my mother would create Peni it would take hours to just prepare it and then she would have to wrap it up in alumini foil so that it would allow the seasonings to settle in. With big family reunions it bound to have some people bring the similar dishes. Even though they cooked the same type of meat doesn’t mean that they are the same dish. Since they were prepared by two different people with different backgrounds, the dish itself represents two completely different styles. For example my mother cooked a lot of her foods traditionally, because that’s how she was raised. She grew up with the knowledge of our ancestor recipes, but our relatives from other countries grow up with their own cooking style. They made it the best way they felt expresses themselves and what they grew accustom to. I looked forward to having family reunions not just because I enjoyed learning how create new dishes, but also I wanted to feel closer to my relatives who I hardly ever get to see. By tasting their foods I was able to take a journey to their home town. I was able to taste all the seasoning that they grew up with and to what they felt best express the true essence of the meat. From the bitter sweet aroma to the texture of how it was deliciously prepared with each morsel I bit into, you could tell how much attention to detail was put into it. I love trying new things especially created by my family members because their style of cooking was so different compare to what I was used to; it was so unique. It always surprised me how dramatically different there dishes tasted compared to my mothers. They would use ingredients I didn’t expect would ever mix so wonderfully together. That’s why I believe when you create a meal it is a form of expression of who you are and where you come from. Every time I eat Peni it reminds me of many different fond memories of my mother, because that was what she loved to make. She took pride in her cooking and because of it I also take pride in everything I cook.

Article 231 of The Treaty of Versailles :: World War I History

Article 231 of The Treaty of Versailles Firstly, we must proceed to explain the nature of Article 231 in order to be able to analyse its judgement about Germany's responsibility for the war. After the war had ended, Europe's, especially France's economy was devastated. There was also a general desire for such a war never to repeat itself, as the first proof of modern warfare proved to be ruinous. To deal with this two issues the allied powers made Germany sign the "war guilt clause" which made it accept all the guilt for the war and because of this, pay reparations to the affected states. In this way France's economy would theoretically recover faster while Germany was kept economically weak so it could never attempt to cause a war again. Even though at the time most non-German historians went along with this, while German historians were not happy with this interpretation for obvious reasons, after a few years opinion began to move away from only blaming Germany and accepted that other countries should also take part of the blame. However, in 1961 a German historian called Fritz Fischer proposed the idea that after all Germany should take most of the responsibility. These two points of view have been a cause for debate for historians and a final agreement has not yet been reached. While most historians accept that the key decisions for war in July 1914 were taken in Berlin, other factors such as German foreign policy ("Weltpolitik") and the alliance system remain still as the grounds of discussion. To analyse in depth Germany's guilt for the war we must first look at the most distant events and work our way up to the July crisis. To understand Germany's actions that lead to war we shall look first at its foreign policy, specifically from the point were Bismarck's policy ended in 1890. After Bismarck's dismissal the Kaiser and his advisers were convinced that the most likely wars in Europe were Germany against France of Austria-Hungary against Russia and in neither case could Russia and Germany be on the same side because of the existing alliances. This meant the rupture of the Russo-German friendship and the starting point were the two fronts that battled in the Great War started to shape up. Another example of a failed attempt of alliance was that of with Britain. Kaiser Wilhelm inherited her mother's admiration for English liberalism and the accepted view of English pre-eminence while keeping his father's strict Prussian military code of behaviour.

Character Analysis of Armand Aubigny

I think Armand Aubigny is one of major character in the story. Because if there are no Armand in the story, then the conflict will not be until the climax, or maybe there would be no conflict at all. In the story, Armand had a conflict with his wife, Desiree. Before we get to the main conflict, yes, I think when Armand had a quarrel with Desiree about Desiree’s baby is the main conflict, first, I will lead you to the characterization of Armand Aubigny. It was no wonder, when she stood one day against the stone pillar in whose shadow she had lain asleep, eighteen years before, that Armand Aubigny riding by and seeing her there, had fallen in love with her. † Armand is a man who fell in love with Desiree. He has a light skin and handsome but his mother having black skin. His mother died when he was eight. He didn’t remember her mother have a black skin, maybe because his light skin. I can say that Armand is a racist, because he has strict rules to his slaves. And hi s slaves are Negrillon. Armand has known Desiree since he is a boy. But on that time, Armand not loved her.It is represented in the sentence: â€Å"The wonder was that he had not loved her before; for he had known her since his father brought him home from Paris, a boy of eight, after his mother died there. † Then, Armand didn’t care about Desiree’s origin. He really fell in love with her. He believed that he can give Desiree the best, the oldest and the proudest in Louisiana as is evidenced under the sentence in which he didn’t care with her nameless: â€Å"What did it matter about a name when he could give her one of the oldest and proudest in Louisiana? † Then they were married. Armand is the man who is arrogant. He cannot discuss a problem using his brain but he uses his emotion. Armand and Desiree live their lives as a family as did other family. Until Desiree gave a birth to a baby and Armand knew that baby has a dark skin. Armand who formerly loved Desiree is now turned into a fierce Armand. Armand blames Desiree for what happened to his child. He said that Desiree is a descendant from a black people . We can look at the scene when Desiree tried to talk to Armand about the child: â€Å"Tell me what it means! † she cried despairingly. â€Å"It means,† he answered lightly, â€Å"that the child is not white; it means that you are not white. †¦ â€Å"As white as La Blanche's,† he returned cruelly; and went away leaving her alone with their child. He didn’t care when Desiree decided to leave the house. Please, look at this conversation: â€Å"Do you want me to go? † â€Å"Yes, I want you to go. † Armand blamed God too. He thought that God has unfair to him because formerly he loved Desiree very much and then Desiree gave him badness into his house and his family. Finally, Armand read a part of a letter from his mother to his father and he knew that he is a descendant of the rac e that is cursed with the brand of slavery.

The Immigration Of The United States - 1184 Words

The migration of immigrants to the U.S. has been a topic for many years now. American born citizens should become aware of the benefits of having immigrants in this nation because it can change a lot of prejudices between them. The U.S. Department of Agriculture states that, â€Å"about half of the hired workers employed in U.S. crop agriculture were unauthorized, with the overwhelming majority of these workers coming from Mexico.† The USDA has also warned that, â€Å"any potential immigration reform could have significant impacts on the U.S. fruit and vegetable industry† (â€Å"Illegal immigrants benefit the U.S. economy† 1). American citizens have had a mistaken belief that the rise of immigration in the country could bring about economic downfalls. Some of those downfalls are fear of job loss, fear of crime rising, and anxiety about changing ethnic and racial makeup of the country (Lu 1324). Although this mistaken belief might seem true for some, there is sub stantial evidence to prove that immigrants are actually beneficial to the economy here in America. The migration of immigrants to the United States is more beneficial to the economy by creating more jobs for Native-born citizens, by boosting earnings for American workers, and by developing cutting-edge technologies and companies. A survey conducted in 2007 showed that 1 out of 10 immigrants own a small business (â€Å"Immigrant Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners† 1).
